What does "Error - String or binary data would be truncated" mean?

Updated by Cheryl Wallace

The error "Error - String or binary data would be truncated" is sometimes also followed by "The statement has been terminated." This error can occur when importing data and indicates that data for a field is too long and the process has stopped without completing.

To resolve this, review the Instructions tab of the import template to be certain you are not exceeding the limits for the field columns.

If the error did not occur when importing data or this does not resolve the problem, email Support including a screenshot of the screen showing the error and describe what you were doing when it occurred. This will help us troubleshoot the problem for you. It will also allow us to put a clearer error message for that specific circumstance.
