Changing the Inventory Type on a Part Number

Updated by Cheryl Wallace

Change Inventory Type should be used with caution. Once the inventory type is changed, it cannot be undone. See About Change Inventory Type for the consequences of changing the inventory type on a part number.

To change the inventory type on many part numbers at once, see Bulk Change Type.

  1. Click Inventory in the left side menu bar, then click Change Inventory Type.
  2. Click  in the edit tool bar to add a new record.
  3. Type or lookup to select the Part No for which the inventory type will be changed. When selected, the Description will be displayed.
  4. Select the New Inventory Type for this part number.

A part number can only be changed to Serialized when it has no quantity of any kind associated with it — nothing on hand, issued, reserved, in a kit, in transit, or committed to a requisition, transfer request, purchase requisition or purchase order. A Non Stock part number can never be changed to Serialized.

  1. Click to proceed. Click Yes to process the inventory type change or No to cancel.
