Perform a Physical Inventory

Updated by Cheryl Wallace

Whether you call it taking a count, count taking, a physical inventory, a cycle count, a field count, or something else, it's best practice to periodically verify your inventory.

Consult the Support team for the best options to meet your requirements and in your environment.

  1. Start by creating a count to define what you want to count.
  • use Create Count in the browser to create any type of count: Count Whatever I Like, Count With Criteria, Count By Date Last Counted, or Count By Entity.
  • use Counts on the TH6 Mobile app to create a Whatever I Like count type.
  1. Count the inventory. Keep in mind that inventory is not updated until the count is closed. Different methods are available to record inventory quantities. For large inventories, you can use more than one method at the same time.
  • Use the TH6 Mobile app to update the count by scanning items and entering quantities.
  • Print Count Sheets then record the quantities on the report then transcribe those quantities in the browser or use the Count import template to import the count details.
  • Update the count directly in the browser. This is effective for smaller counts or if you use a tablet to access the ToolHound browser on a utility cart.
  1. Close the count in the browser. This step finalizes the count. Print any required supporting reports.
