Adding a Serialized Item

There are multiple methods of adding a new serialized item ID for a tool or piece of equipment that is tracked individually. Three are listed below. Regardless of the method, the part number must exist prior to adding the unique serialized item ID.

To add a new serialized item most efficiently,
  1. Click Inventory in the left side menu bar and click Part Numbers.
  2. Look up the part number using known information to filter and speed the search.
  3. Select the Items tab.
  4. Click . The Serialized Items page will be displayed with the part number information already populated.
  5. Enter the information specific to the unique serialized item.
    1. Enter the minimum required information: Primary ID, Stocking Point, and Inventory Status.
    2. Enter any additional information.
      1. Enter details on the General, Purchase Rental information, Alternate IDs, and Notes tabs.
      2. Update Last Service fields on Service Requirements tab, if using the Service module.
      3. Add any attachments specific to the item by clicking .
  6. Click  to save the new item.

To add a new serialized item from scratch,
  1. Click Inventory in the left side menu bar and click Serialized Items.
  2. Click the to add a new record.
  3. Enter minimum required information to identify the item, indicated in red. This includes Primary ID, Stocking Point, Inventory Status, and Part Number.
  4. Enter any additional information.
    1. Enter details on the General, Purchase Rental information, Alternate IDs, and Notes tabs.
    2. Update Last Service fields on Service Requirements tab, if using the Service module.
    3. Add any attachments specific to the item by clicking .
  5. Click  to save the part number record.

To quickly add a new serialized item ID which is similar to an existing serialized item,
  1. Click Inventory in the left side menu bar and click Serialized Items.
  2. Look up the existing serialized item ID.
  3. Click  to duplicate the record, retaining all non-unique information from the previous item. When using the Service module, update Last Service Dates as they will default to today's date.
  4. Enter the Primary ID and Inventory Status.
  5. Make the required changes to the item's additional information on the General, Purchase Rental information, Alternate IDs, and Notes tabs and add any attachments specific to the item by clicking .
  6. Click  to save the record.

Serialized items can also created when receiving inventory in the Purchasing module. Batches of several items can be added using an import.
