About Customizing Reports

New in ToolHound 6 is the ability to create customized versions of standard system reports for your organization. These reports are based on existing standard or "canned" ToolHound 6 reports. As with standard reports, they appear on the Reports menu in the appropriate section and can be favorited. These reports have the same output options.

Some advantages of customizing reports:

  • The original standard report remains available.
  • Multiple versions of the same standard report can be created.
  • Add columns to include related information not on the standard report.
  • Remove columns to create a simplified or condensed version of a standard report.
  • Modify the order of columns on a report.
  • Tailor filtering of the report and optionally set required filters.
  • Modify the sort order of some columns.
  • Hard code the visibility in the report. In environments with multiple stocking points, this reduces the number of clicks to generate a report for a single stocking location.
  • Editing of these reports can be restricted to the author of the report.
  • Customized reports can be flagged as Private, meaning only the user who created the report can see the report on the menu or run it.

All customized reports are based on existing report types. While a customized report can be created "from scratch", the best practice is to duplicate an existing report to save time and effort.

All Columns, Sorting, Filtering, and Layout are preloaded but editable.

Make modifications as required.

A report type must be selected.

All Columns to appear on the report must be selected.

Define Sorts and Filters and edit Layout manually.

Any report with a layout design template will be copied with the same layout design template. These templates for PDF output are not editable. Any changes to the report will be visible in Excel / CSV output only. Alternatively, the layout designed Template can be removed and the report will be transformed to a basic tabular (column) report where columns and the layout can be modified for viewing in Excel or PDF output. Examples of reports using design templates are the Transaction Requisition, Transaction Receipt, Packing Slip, Purchase Order, Receiving Slip, Work Order, Transfer Billing Report / Invoice, and Transaction Billing.
Any changes made to the standard report after the report is duplicated will not be reflected in the customized version of the report as all layout, field, sorting, etc. information is copied at the time the report is created.
