Getting Started - Installing ToolHound On-Premise

Previous Step: Getting Started - Onboarding Meeting

This step applies to ToolHound On Premise implementations only. If you are using ToolHound Cloud, proceed to Getting started - Review Company Settings.
  1. Ensure the environment(s) meets or exceeds the technical requirements:
    1. For the core ToolHound 6 installation on the application server and SQL Server, see Technical Requirements.
    2. If the ToolHound 6 Kiosk is licensed, ensure each machine where it will be installed meets or exceeds the Technical Requirements for ToolHound 6 Kiosk.
  2. Download the required installer file(s) using the link and password provided by email.
    1. Download the ToolHound 6 Installer.
    2. If the ToolHound 6 Kiosk is licensed, download the ToolHound6Kiosk package.
    3. For organizations where Android apps are packaged and pushed out to users, download the ToolHound6Mobile.apk
  • If this was not provided to you by ToolHound directly or the internal principal contact for this project, contact our Support team.
  • If you are an out-sourced IT provider, be certain to include the name of the company you are installing the software for and your contact at that company when contacting our Support team.
  1. Review all instructions for Installing ToolHound 6 On-Premise before proceeding with the installation itself. Be certain to test the installation. For any issues or technical questions not addressed in this documentation, contact our Support team.
Tips for Troubleshooting the Installation are available.
  1. Create the database that will contain the ToolHound data. This step is done via the browser at the URL specified during the installation. See Registering the ToolHound 6 Database for instructions.
Take note of the Database Name / Company Alias entered as this will be need to be added to your regular SQL backup schedule and communicated to end users as it is required for them to log in.
  1. Configure automatic and background processes
    1. Enter the SMTP information used to send automatic emails. See instructions for Configuring Email - On Premise only
    2. Configure settings enabling automatic email processes:
      1. For Background Notifications, see
        1. Configuring Background Notification Frequency - On-Premise only
        2. Configuring the Background Notification Database List - On-Premise only
      2. For Scheduled Reports, see
        1. Configuring the Scheduled Reports Database List - On-Premise only
        2. Enabling Scheduled Reports - On-Premise only
  2. Perform a final validation of the login and apply the license which unlocks all licensed features for the subscription. The license file (*.lic) would have been attached to the same email containing the download link. If you need to obtain a copy of the license file for your organization, contact our Support team.
  3. If the ToolHound 6 Kiosk is licensed, for each machine where it will be used:
    1. Install the ToolHound 6 Kiosk.
    2. Configure the ToolHound 6 Kiosk Settings specifying the Admin login (username and password) created during the Register Database step.
  4. Install and configure ToolHound 6 Mobile devices if mandated by your organization:
    1. For organizations where Android apps are packaged and pushed out to users, see instructions: Installing ToolHound Mobile for Android from a Downloaded APK File. Be certain to configure the ToolHound Server and Company Alias.
    2. For organizations accessing the App Store or Play Store, see Installing ToolHound Mobile from Apple App Store or Android Play. Be certain to configure the ToolHound Server and Company Alias.
    Depending on your organization’s policies, this can also be done by end users.
  5. Hand off to users and provide the following information:
    1. To all users, communicate the URL and company alias.
    2. To the principal user designated as the ToolHound administrator, communicate
      1. the URL and company alias.
      2. the Admin login (user name and password) created during the Register Database step. The designated ToolHound administrator will provide logins to other users.
      3. the Settings Password for the ToolHound 6 Kiosk when it is licensed. The designated ToolHound administrator can change the user log in associated with Kiosk transactions and other options.
