Installing an Update from 6.2022.8.15 or prior using the Patch

Updated by Cheryl Wallace

When updating from version 6.2022.8.15 or earlier it is simpler to use the Installer. If you choose not to use the Installer, using the Patch requires a special procedure outlined below.

The update to 6.2022.10.27 includes a prerequisite for the ASP .NET 6 Core Runtime and has changes to the appsettings.json file.

This exception to the update process applies only if you are updating from a version prior to 6.2022.10.27 to 6.2022.10.27 or later and you use the Patch.

Before getting started, download the following files:

  • TH6 Patch.Net8.zip from our download link provided in the update notice.
  • the ASP.NET Core 6.0 Runtime (dotnet-hosting-6.0.10-win.exe) using Microsoft's download link.

Begin the update procedure:

  1. Install the ASP.NET core 6.0 Runtime. Execute dotnet-hosting-6.0.10-win.exe and follow the prompts.
  2. Prepare the installation folder.
    1. Make a copy of the existing ToolHound 6 installation folder as a backup.
    2. Delete all files in the existing ToolHound 6 installation folder except the appsettings.json file, the web.config file and the Licenses folder.
  3. Apply the Patch.
    1. Stop the ToolHound 6 site in IIS.
    2. Extract the files from the zip and copy them into your installation path (overwriting the existing files).
  4. Make the required changes to the apppsettings.json file. See Enabling Scheduled Reports - On-Premise only and Configuring the Scheduled Reports Database List - On-Premise only.
  5. Restart the site in IIS.
  6. Log into the browser to trigger scripts.
The first user login after the update is applied triggers scripts that complete the update regardless of the method chosen to update TH6.
  1. Update mobile devices from the appropriate app store if applicable for this release.
