About Authentication Settings

Updated by Cheryl Wallace

The Authentication tab of the Settings page is used to configure the two methods of user authentication supported by ToolHound in addition to user passwords: Single Sign On (SSO) and Two Factor Authentication (2FA).

On Premise systems required additional configuration for either SSO and 2FA before this tab is visible.

Single Sign On (SSO)

Google

Select this option to automatically log in as the ToolHound user where the email address matches the currently logged in Google account.

Microsoft

Select this option to automatically log in as the ToolHound user where the email address matches the currently logged in Microsoft account.

Even when using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory or Azure AD), a user must be created in ToolHound with an email address matching that in Entra ID.

Disable Local Login

Select this option to exclusively login in using the SSO account matching a ToolHound user email address. This prevents bypassing the SSO account login by using the user name and password.

Enabling Disable Local Login prevents the use of Two Factor Authentication. When selected, the Two Factor Authentication option(s) will not be available.

Ensure all users have unique valid email addresses before enabling this option otherwise they will not be able to log in.

Two Factor Authentication

Use Two Factor Authentication

Select this option to enable the use of 2FA, a secondary verification of the login, with a code supplied by an authenticator app. When enabled, each user can set up their account in an authenticator app

This option is not available when Disable Local Login is enabled and will not be displayed.
