Configuring the Bar Code Scanner on a Zebra Device

Updated by Dean Perry

To use the Zebra's internal scanner with the hardware trigger, you must configure DataWedge to insert a tab key after scanning the bar code. This is applicable to all Zebra devices including the MC33, TC21, TC26, and TC27.

The cursor must be in the correct data entry field when pressing the trigger in order for the bar code to be entered.

The following steps will add the tab key as required.

  1. Install and run the ToolHound 6 app at least once.
  2. Find the DataWedge app and tap on it.
  3. Select ToolHound 6. If ToolHound 6 is not available, complete step 1.
  4. In the Keystroke Output section, tap on Basic Data Formatting.
  5. Find Send Tab Key and tap on the checkbox to check it.
  6. Tap the Back button until you exit DataWedge.

If you only use the bar code button beside an entry field, you do not need to complete these steps.
