What does "Cannot access the server. Please check that the address you entered is correct." mean?

Updated by Cheryl Wallace

The error "Cannot access the server. Please check that the address you entered is correct." indicates that the your ToolHound database server cannot be reached.

Possible causes include

  • An error in server address (URL) entered.
To correct this, verify the address in the browser address bar or Server in the settings for TH6 Mobile. Ensure that you are using fully qualified address starting with https:// For Cloud subscribers, be certain to use https://www.mytoolhound.com
  • Your device does not have access to WIFI or the internet.
To correct this, reestablish connectivity. If you cannot log in immediately, restart your device.
  • Your company network account / login does not have permission to access your ToolHound server. Applies to On Premise systems only.

To correct this, contact your IT personnel. This is related to your internal network and security, not your ToolHound user login.

  • Your IT department recently changed your ToolHound Premise installation
    • to a secure server using a certificate, changing the URL from http:// to https://
    • to use a different URL on a different server
To correct this, have your IT personnel check that they have updated the appsettings.json file on the server to reflect the new URL.

If the solutions above do not resolve the problem, email Support including a screenshot of your Settings page.
